6th Edition Of GCA Master Journal Now Available
Just when we thought the Matrix was updated, GLOCK introduced another pistol. We had just finished updating the Matrix and the Master Journal a few months ago only to learn that during 2024 NRA Show in Dallas, Texas, GLOCK introduced a long awaited pistol. Pun intended. The G17L Gen5 Long Slide now has the full Gen5 treatment and is equipped with MOS.
The 6th Edition of the GCA Master Journal is now available. Remember with any new or renewed membership you receive a copy of the 6th Edition.
The G17L is one of the least produced GLOCK pistols. Very few were made in Gen1 and Gen2. More were made in Gen3 and that is where the G17L has stayed since 1998. The G17L completely skipped over the 4th generation. In the past 26 plus years since, small runs of the G17L Gen3 have been offered. There were two early variants of G17L Gen1 one with a standard barrel and one with a ported barrel. The ported barrel variant used three slots cut at the top of barrel. Since the slide was cut out on the top, burning gases vented up helping to control muzzle flip. On the early vented barrel variant, the burning gases dirtied the front sight covering up the white dot. There were also reports that high pressure cartridges were cracking the barrels. Interesting to note is that Gen1 pistols had a 4.5-pound target trigger and a warning label was placed on the manual that the gun was equipped with the much lighter trigger. As you know, the Matrix is the official list of all GLOCK First-Run Upon Introduction models with serial numbers and letter prefixes for pistols shipped and produced in the US. For the GLOCK collector and enthusiast, the Matrix is the key to understanding GLOCK serial numbers and letter prefixes and determining the value of a particular pistol.
